What’s the difference between Chess Assistant 13 and Upgrade Chess Assistant 13:

There is no difference – both packages are the same standalone program. They only differ in price. Upgrade Chess Assistant may only be ordered by owners of Chess Assistant (any version) or Houdini Aquarium. To order an Upgrade package, specify the product you own and its serial code.

What’s the difference between Chess Assistant 13 and Houdini 3 Aquarium:

Chess Assistant and Aquarium interfaces are in fact quite different products.

The Aquarium interface is a unique playing and analyzing tool. It is the best program for game editing, playing against the computer (including handicapped mode) and deep analysis. All these functions are implemented better and are generally more enjoyable in Aquarium than in Chess Assistant. For instance, Interactive Deep Analysis is the most advanced chess analysis method available today, and it is greatly enhanced in Houdini 3 Aquarium.

For such functions as database management, duplicate games search, trees, classifiers, various search modes, updating databases online – Chess Assistant is a better suited tool than Aquarium. Chess Assistant 13 includes Premium Game Service, allowing you to update your database online on a weekly basis (3000 new games each week, until 31.12.2013).

So, if you need an all-purpose program with excellent database management features, then Chess Assistant 13 is your pick. If you are mostly interested in playing and analyzing, buy Houdini Aquarium.
