I am using Openings Encyclopedia 2010 but I am following the ChessOK Cafe column ChessOK03.pdf on Opening Study Part 1, which is for Encyclopedia 2006 of course, but along with all the other ChessOK Cafe columns essential reading. On page 4 I get to the tree display and then switch from the 'Moves from' view to selecting the 'Moves to' tab.
Now the problem: In the 'Moves to' tab I am Right clicking the first move, 7. 0-0, and selecting 'Show Paths' which sends the program off on its search and, at 30MB/sec rapidly consumes all the 2GB of RAM I have available. The end results is an 'Out of memory' warning from the program and it has to be closed to recover the situation. As in the image at the top of page 5 of ChessOK03.pdf I have selected 'Direct Tree'. I have tested 'Current Base Tree', 'Huge Base Tree', 'Indexer' and' Evaluations' which all successfully produce a table.
Thanks for your help in resolving this.
I also have a query: I received this application as part of my purchase of Rybka 4 Aquarium and would ask if, and how, I can get both applications to share the Hugebase, CAP and d2m files which together take a lot of space when you have to duplicate them. If they can't share, can the Openings copy of the Hugebase be updated by importing games?
Thanks also for you response on this.

I have completed a reinstall and the problem is the same and completely reproducable as described. There is no error log file (*.elf) file.

it is strange.
Try to send your problem by e-mail (with full description of actions, which lead to error and exact text of error message) and I will forward problem to our programer

For the benefit of other viewers of this thread, I have received a reply from Alexander Zhuravlev, ChessOK, and post it next:"I am sorry.
But our programer told that this operation indeed spent very many memory (when used in position where many paths)
And Opening enc 2010 really fails because "out of memory"
Use this operation carefully, when work with huge trees.
Nothing can be done to improve this situation."
I am disappointed at this response, which basically says I have insufficient memory at 2GB. My interpretation of the response is that "...we agree it doesn't work, but we aren't going to fix it"!
But I am only using the application feature with the data exactly as supplied and I would suggest that one of the following should be done:
1) I believe that this part of the program is using recursion to produce the results and that with a little effort an alternative, although maybe less elegant, algorithm could be used to make the feature work.
2) If you won't solve the problem, then the deficiency in the feature should fail in a controlled manner, with an informative error message and recovery of the memory so that the user can continue using the application; it should not require using the Task Manager to force the termination of the application so you have to start all over again.
Either of these suggestions will require some effort, but will you please consider implementing one of them and making a patch available?
I would also make the observation that your response to a clear problem with the program is quite contrary to the responses I have had to the faults I have reported that I have encountered with Rybka 4 Aquarium, on Rybka Chess Community Forum, Rybka Support & Discussion / Aquarium, where they are acknowledged and given a Problem ID number.
It is as if you are two different companies, or is the Chess Openings Encyclopedia 2010 is an obsolete unsupported product?
On the plus side I am impressed with the speed of your response to the problem I have raised.
